A luxury dining experience: An evening at The Victoria Barnt Green.

Going out for dinner is one of my favourite things to do, but admittedly it's not very often especially now I'm a mom. If I manage to get out for food, It's normally a combination of ordering my food and not eating it until its gone cold because Rupert needs a feed or wants to be rocked to sleep. Not to mention I don't get to enjoy the cocktail menu very often.

Last Week My Mom and I were very kindly invited to experience the refurbished restaurant, brand spanking new menu and my personal favourite, the delicious cocktail menu at The Victoria in Barnt Green. We had visited the restaurant a few years ago and were keen to go back.

We were impressed pretty much from our first step in. The new interior decoration gives a cosy, homely feel whilst giving a touch of exquisite luxury. We were made to feel completely comfortable and welcome from the word go. Just round the corner from the main dining area, tucked away is a gorgeous sit down area with a large open fireplace. It was cosy and perfect for those waiting to be seated or just to relax with a cocktail.

Our first stop on arrival was at the cocktail bar, which had a brand new menu, with a wide range of Vodka's, Gin's and lots of many favourites. The cocktail bar included its own little corner full of cute little extras to customise your own beverage, such as rose petals, fennel seeds and fruits. Making your experience completely unique to any other.

I had a Raspberry Mule (Vodka), Mom had a Tanqueray flor de Sevilla (Blood Orange Gin).

They also have a great selection of mocktails and soft drinks for those wanting a non-alcoholic drink.

When enjoying our first round of drinks Mom and I sat down in the separate cornered area which I spoke of earlier. We enjoyed our time away from the main dining area and had a time to talk over our cocktails (which were lovely).

We were greeted with a gorgeous plate of canapé's, which normally isn't my thing because I am such a huge picky eater, but it was lovely. It was a good range of different foods so even if you are fussy like me, there is bound to be something you'll enjoy. I particularly liked the Brie, The Steak Salad and the Pork Belly.

Personally, I think this would be great for nights out with friends or first dates as it's a real conversation starter and perfect for sharing.

The main dining area is split into three open rooms with the same themed interior. We were seated in a smaller room which was full of floral patterns and netted windows which gave a lovely view into the main dining area and bar. Again it felt cosy and warm, especially with the wood fire.

If we hadn't had enough treats already, (before even ordering our food) We were given a sample of mango and pineapple infused with chilli, mint and coriander. I cannot tell you how insane this was, I felt like Gordon Ramsey as I muttered the words 'It's like a firework explosion in my mouth'.

I ordered my second cocktail of the evening, A Candy Floss Martini and Mom ordered her first Mocktail, Elderflower and Sherbet.

The Victoria has an extensive menu with a wide range of different foods to suit everyone, including a large vegan menu.

Of course we had three starters! The starter menu was full of so many amazing choices that we couldn't just pick one each, So we opted to share three different ones.

The Box-Baked Camembert, Topped with Omega Seed Sprinkle, Served with a Cherry and Thyme dip and warm dough sticks. This was my particular favourite but you really can't go wrong with bread and cheese, such a classic favourite done very well.

Chargrilled Lamb Koftas, Goat's Curd, Plum Tomatoes, Roasted Red Pepper, Cucumber and Mint Salad. Mom loved this one in particular, the flavours were outstanding and the perfect size for a starter.

Crispy Karaage Chicken, with Cucumber ribbons, Mooli, Kale and Cauliflower couscous Salad and warm Katsu sauce. This was a different choice for me, something I would never pick but it was so lovely. Really warm and light.

We were so full already by this point with food and drink, but we powered through it and ordered our mains.

King Prawn, Crab and Chorizo Linguini, with White Wine, Tomatoes, Chilli and Garlic.
According to my Mom this was fantastic, which means it must have been good because my Mom loves her seafood. Not my thing because I don't like sea food but she really enjoyed it.

I opted for the 7oz Fillet Steak with an Ale-glazed Shallot Tart topped with Cropwell Bishop Custard, Stilton and Walnut Crumb and twice cooked Chunky Chips (Medium Rare). Steak is really difficult to get right, not only does it have to be cooked to perfection but it needs to have significant flavour without being overdone. My steak was cooked exactly how I like it with a gorgeous Tart on the side to add sweetness to the dish. I really enjoyed this and somehow managed to eat it all, even though I was extremely full by this stage.

A Peach Bellini was ordered to pair with the steak.

For our final course I ordered my favourite Creme Brûlée, mainly because I order it at every restaurant I go to and thought this was the ultimate test to see how good the food is.

Mom ordered the Melted Chocolate and Peanut Bomb,  filled with Sticky Toffee Pudding and Peanut Butter Cream, served with a Bourbon Vanilla Ice cream and Salted Caramel Sauce. This was simply amazing. Not only was it a show stopped and visually great to watch but was a delight to eat.

I, obviously, went for the Vanilla Creme Brûlée, served with home baked Sultana and Oatmeal Biscuits. I really enjoyed this, it was filled deeper than what i'm used to but was gorgeous. Creamy but not too overpowering for the end of a meal. Nailed a classic.

Also adding a final cocktail, Blood Orange and Thyme Gin. I never would have thought to drink Thyme but gave a lovely twist to a classic, I recommend highly.

It was such a pleasure being asked to The Victoria and I can't tell you just how much fun Mom and I had. They made my 'night off' one to remember, I really enjoyed myself. I am already planning my return with my partner and his family, taking Ru with us this time.

This was a gifted experience, please see my disclaimer for more information.
