I constantly have people on social media asking me about Rupert's eating, his meals and how we got him to be such a good eater. It is down to pure luck I think but we let him take the lead which is so important.
Initially we were combination feeding, giving purees and then optional finger foods. This went really well for us but at around 8 months Ru was avoiding his purees and was eating more and more of his finger foods rather than playing with them. I am glad I gave finger foods as an extra to begin with because it gave him time to get used to his grip, coordinations with his hand to mouth and gave him a taste for different foods and textures. Meaning that when he could start chewing, as his teeth came through, he was able to get stuck in.
We ditched the purees when he was going for his finger food more, he was telling us he didn't want purees so we took his lead on things. I would always give a yoghurt or puree after he was done with his finger foods to ensure he was full.
He also now along side the meals and snacks will have three cow's milk bottles.
You're probably thinking why are you telling me all of this? But I think it's important to give you the history of Ru's eating habits so that you don't look at Ru's weekly diet and think 'Why doesn't my one year old eat this much?'.
Every baby is different and every baby is different. The way we did it may not be best for your baby.
